We see different kinds of plants around us. Some of them are big while others are small. Big plants are called trees. For example, mango, jaman, keekar, and neem etc are trees. Orange, lemon and guava are plants. The Herb is a short-sized plant with soft, green, delicate stem without the woody tissues For example Tomato, Brinjal. Some smaller plants are called shrubs. For example, rose and jasmine. Some plants need support to grow. These are called creepers. Such creepers include Bottle guard and Pumpkin. We get different fruits from plants.
We get cotton from cotton plants. We make thread from cotton and weave cloth from thread. Wood obtained from big trees is used to make almirahs, tables and chairs.

Parts of a Plant
Roots
The roots of a plant are usually underground. Roots soak up water, vitamins and minerals from the soil so that a plant has plenty of food and nutrients. Roots also help to anchor the plant in the soil so that it does not fall over.
Stem The stem supports the plant so that it stands upright. It has many thin tubes that carry water, minerals and food up from the roots.
Leaf Most of the plant’s food is made in its leaves. They are wide so that the chlorophyll can take in more sunlight and do its job better.

Chlorophyll
This chemical is the green color found in plants. Chlorophyll takes in light from the sun and turns it into energy and sugar to feed the plant. This process is called photosynthesis.
Plants
Flower
The flower of a plant has many parts. Some flowers make fruit. Others are poisonous to eat. All flowers make pollen. The pollen is released into the wind or gets stuck on insects, and when the pollen reaches other flowers, new flowers are made. This process is called pollination.
Seeds
Seeds of the plants are produced from flowers in fruits. When seeds are sown in soil, new plants grow from them. In this way, the number of plants increases. We like to eat roots of some plants. Such plants include beetroot, carrot, radish and turnip, etc.
Seed Germinations The process by which a seed grows into a new plant is called germination.
Plants
Flowering and non-flowering plants Some plants bear flowers and some do not bear flowers.
Most of the plants grow from seeds.
Seeds of one plant are different from the seeds of other plants.
