Uses of Acids
a. Hydrochloric acid :
* It is used in our homes for cleaning kitchen sinks and sanitary ware or clogged drains.
* It is used for cleaning metal surfaces before tinning or galvanising or soldiering.
* It is used for preparing glucose from starch.
b. Nitric acid :
* It is used in the manufacturing of fertilizers and explosives such as TNT and TNG.
* It is used for the purification of noble metals like silver and gold.
c.Sulphuric acid :
* It is used in the batteries for inverters, trucks, and cars.
* It is used in the manufacturing of fertilizers, dyes and paints.
* Dilute hydrochloric acid is used for removing the deposits from inside the boilers known as de-scaling.
d.Phosphoric acid : i) It is used in the manufacture of phosphatic fertilisers.
e.Carbonic acid : It is commonly used in plain soda. Mixed with citric acid and sugar it is used for making soft drinks.
f. Acetic acid : Cooking.
g.Citric acid : Food preservation, soft drinks.
h.Tartaric acid : Baking powder.
i.Oxalic acid : Ink stain remover.
j.Boric acid : Washing eyes.
