Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India and has highly fertile land that supports large-scale farming of wheat, sugarcane, pulses, fruits, and vegetables. A number of important industrial centres are located here, such as Kanpur and Agra for leather goods, Meerut for sports goods etc. Sugar mills form the backbone of economy here. The people here speak Hindi and other Hindi dialects like Brij and Awadhi. Their attire comprises of dhoti-kurta and salwar-kameej, with men wearing turbans or Gandhi caps. The staple food in western Uttar Pradesh is wheat, while it is rice in the east. There are many places of tourist interest, such Agra, Prayagraj, Benaras etc. The Sangam is located at Prayagraj where the Ganga and the Yamuna meet. The Kumbh Mela is held here every 12 years. The Taj Mahal at Agra is a world famous monument.
Bihar
The lifestyle in Bihar is akin to that of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Bihar has fertile land and abundant mineral resources, yet its people remain poor. Floods cause a huge loss of life and property each year. Due to poverty and floods, many people of Bihar migrate to other states in search for work. Farming is an important occupation here with important crops being rice, wheat, sugarcane and jute. Patna, its capital, is a historical city. Its other places of tourist interest are Nalanda and Bodh Gaya. People speak Hindi, Magadhi, Maithili and Bhojpuri. Chhath, Diwali, Dussehra and Eid are important festivals here.
Jharkhand
Jharkhand is rich in mineral resources like iron ore, coal, mica and graphite, leading to the establishment of major iron and steel industries in Jamshedpur and Bokaro. Ranchi is its capital and rice, millets, sugarcane, and jute are important crops. People here speak Hindi and Maithili and the region is home to several tribes including Santhals and Mundas. Holi, Diwali, Dussehra, and Eid are some of the important festivals celebrated here.
