Quadratic Expressions-II
Maximum and Minimum values of a Quadratic Expression:
i) We have seen that when a>0, the parabola is open upward, the expression y=ax2+bx+c=0 have minimum value.
The minimum value =\(\frac{{4ac - {b^2}}}{{4a}}\)
The minimum value occurs at \(x = \frac{{ - b}}{{2a}}\)
ii) Whe have seen that when a<0, the parabola is opendownwards the expression y=ax2+bx+c have maximum value
The maximum value =\(\frac{{4ac - {b^2}}}{{4a}}\)
The maximum value occurs at \(x = \frac{{ - b}}{{2a}}\)
