Geometry
A branch of mathematics that deals with points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids.
Point
A point is defined as a location in any space and is represented by a dot (.). It does not have any length, height, shape, or size
Line
A line is a one-dimensional figure, which has length but no width. A line is made of a set of points which is extended in opposite directions infinitely. It is determined by two points.
The line is represented by the shown on the right hand side, where A and B are the points by which we obtain the line \(\overleftrightarrow {AB}\).
When you join two points to get a line, you can join them in any way and you’ll obtain different lines. For example, if A and B are any two points, you can join them as follows:
Drawing a straight line
We use a ruler to draw straight lines. Place a ruler as shown below on the paper. Use a pencil to draw along the edge of the ruler to join the points A and B. AB is a straight line.
Different types of lines
There are different types of lines: horizontal line, vertical line, slanting line, curvy lines etc.
