Telangana
Located entirely in the Deccan Plateau, Telangana was carved out of the state of Andhra Pradesh on 2 June, 2014. With Hyderabad as its capital, this is the 29th state of India. Its major cities include Warangal, Nizamadabad and Karimnagar. The state has emerged as an important IT (information technology) centre. It also has a number of aerospace and research laboratories, like the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), DRDL (Defence Research and Development Laboratory) etc. Agriculture is the main occupation with rice as an important crop. Other crops include cotton, sugarcane, mango and tobacco. The state has rich cultural heritage. It has several important historical monuments including Charminar, Warangal Fort, Thousand-pillar Temple etc. Telugu is the common language spoken in Telangana, while Urdu is also widely spoken. The famous Golconda mines of the state are known for their diamonds and gems. The popular dish of Telangana is biryani.
