Enforcing Laws
The laws are like rules. They have to be put into practice. This function is done by the Council of Ministers which comprises the Prime Minister of India and some ministers. Different ministers look after different ministries or departments, such as foreign affairs, defence, finance, railways etc. A large number of officers and other workers work in these ministries and departments. In the states, laws are enforced by the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers.
Giving justice
There are courts of law in our country to give justice to people. The Supreme Court of India is the highest court of law. It works for the entire country. It is located at New Delhi. There are High Courts in states. They are located in different states. There are district courts in all districts. There are lower courts in small towns (tehsils). A case generally starts at the lower or district court. If a party to a case is not satisfied with the judgement, he can appeal to the High Court and then to the Supreme Court.
